SUMMARY:Pioneering AI Governance: Unveiling Singapore's Model Framework
DESCRIPTION:A novel governance framework for generative artificial intelligence (AI) has been introduced by Singapore\, with an invitation for international feedback. The Model AI Governance Framework for Generative AI (MGF-GenAI) extends beyond the 2019 framework\, which focused solely on traditional AI\, reflecting the evolving landscape of generative AI. \nThe collaborative effort between the AI Verify Foundation and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) underscores Singapore’s commitment to contributing significantly to the global discourse surrounding AI governance. \nMinister for Communications and Information\, Josephine Teo emphasised the need for a global perspective\, stating that AI governance transcends national boundaries. The launch of the updated framework at the World Economic Forum in Davos\, Switzerland\, signifies Singapore’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and enrichment of the ongoing global conversation on AI governance. \nThe MGF-GenAI is anticipated to be finalized by mid-2024. \nThis sharing session aims to elucidate Singapore’s pioneering framework\, offering clarity on its innovative approach and providing insights into the direction of progress. \nBesides the proposed Model AI Governance Framework for Generative AI\, Lee Wan Sie will also share on AI Verify – IMDA’s governance testing framework and software toolkit.

SUMMARY:Decarbonisation of Supply Chain & Tour of the DHL Innovation Center
DESCRIPTION:The maritime\, aviation and logistics industries represent the backbone of global trade. Together they account for more than 20% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and are therefore facing pressing challenges related to sustainability all along their supply chains. This event aims to bring together industry leaders and experts to discuss and strategise ways to accelerate the adoption of green fuels and sustainable practices in supply chains\, especially the challenging area of Scope 3 emissions\, which constitutes a significant proportion of a company’s carbon footprint but often remains unaddressed due to its complex\, interconnected nature.

SUMMARY:Embedding Reduction of E-Waste in the Manufacturing Process: Harvesting for Reuse
DESCRIPTION:The escalating annual generation of waste electrical and electronic equipment (e-waste) in the European Union (EU) and Singapore has emerged as a critical concern\, representing one of the fastest-growing waste streams. This category encompasses a diverse array of devices\, ranging from mobile phones\, computers\, and televisions to medical devices and photovoltaic panels. \nE-waste\, characterised by a complex mixture of materials\, including hazardous substances\, poses substantial environmental and health risks. Furthermore\, contemporary electronics harbour rare and expensive resources\, including critical raw materials\, which could be salvaged through efficient recycling and re-use practices. \nThis panel discussion seeks to underscore the urgency of enhancing the collection\, treatment\, and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment at the end of their life cycle\, aligning with the overarching goal of transitioning towards a circular economy. \nIn Singapore\, the National Environment Agency (NEA) enforces e-waste management guided by the Resource Sustainability Act (RSA). ALBA E-waste Smart Recycling Pte Ltd is the designated Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) Operator\, overseeing consumer Electronic and Electrical Equipment (EEE) waste. Regulations such as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive)\, also in the EU\, mandate the separate collection and proper treatment of e-waste\, prescribing targets for its collection\, recovery\, and recycling. \nDuring this event\, participants will gain insights into e-waste management regulations from Singapore’s leading authorities in the field. The event offers a unique platform for attendees to hear firsthand from companies actively addressing the e-waste challenge. Furthermore\, it serves as a forum to explore opportunities and strategies for increasing proper disposal practices.

SUMMARY:Corporate Philanthropy: Embracing Needs-based Initiatives for Lasting Impact
DESCRIPTION:Corporate philanthropy can be significant in fostering positive societal change. It’s important for corporations to acknowledge the diverse needs present in our communities and tailor their contributions accordingly\, rather than merely following trends. This can prevent certain causes from being overly funded at the expense of others\, ensuring a fairer distribution of resources and combating inequalities. \nOur panel discussion aims to shed light on the importance of aligning corporate giving with societal needs\, urging companies to actively engage in addressing pressing issues. By adopting a needs-based approach to philanthropy\, businesses not only fulfill their social responsibility but also open doors to various benefits and opportunities. \nDuring our upcoming event\, participants will delve into the advantages and opportunities that arise when businesses prioritise support for critical social initiatives. \nJoin us in exploring how corporations can make a meaningful impact by addressing the urgent needs of our communities.

SUMMARY:The Energy Transition in Singapore – Way Forward & Financing a More Sustainable Power Sector
DESCRIPTION:The power sector in Singapore accounts for about 40% of the country’s carbon emissions. In light of Singapore’s 2050 Net Zero Target\, reducing the power sector’s emissions will be critical to achieve this goal. However\, this does not come without challenges. Singapore will still need to maintain a secure\, reliable and sustainable power system in an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical environment. Additionally\, mobilising around $3.5 trillion a year of capital investment to achieve a net-zero economy between now and 2050 won’t come without its risks.
