This category encompasses a diverse array of devices\, ranging from mobile phones\, computers\, and televisions to medical devices and photovoltaic panels. \nE-waste\, characterised by a complex mixture of materials\, including hazardous substances\, poses substantial environmental and health risks. Furthermore\, contemporary electronics harbour rare and expensive resources\, including critical raw materials\, which could be salvaged through efficient recycling and re-use practices. \nThis panel discussion seeks to underscore the urgency of enhancing the collection\, treatment\, and recycling of electrical and electronic equipment at the end of their life cycle\, aligning with the overarching goal of transitioning towards a circular economy. \nIn Singapore\, the National Environment Agency (NEA) enforces e-waste management guided by the Resource Sustainability Act (RSA). ALBA E-waste Smart Recycling Pte Ltd is the designated Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS) Operator\, overseeing consumer Electronic and Electrical Equipment (EEE) waste. Regulations such as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive)\, also in the EU\, mandate the separate collection and proper treatment of e-waste\, prescribing targets for its collection\, recovery\, and recycling. \nDuring this event\, participants will gain insights into e-waste management regulations from Singapore’s leading authorities in the field. The event offers a unique platform for attendees to hear firsthand from companies actively addressing the e-waste challenge. Furthermore\, it serves as a forum to explore opportunities and strategies for increasing proper disposal practices.

The Model AI Governance Framework for Generative AI (MGF-GenAI) extends beyond the 2019 framework\, which focused solely on traditional AI\, reflecting the evolving landscape of generative AI. \nThe collaborative effort between the AI Verify Foundation and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) underscores Singapore’s commitment to contributing significantly to the global discourse surrounding AI governance. \nMinister for Communications and Information\, Josephine Teo emphasised the need for a global perspective\, stating that AI governance transcends national boundaries. The launch of the updated framework at the World Economic Forum in Davos\, Switzerland\, signifies Singapore’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and enrichment of the ongoing global conversation on AI governance. \nThe MGF-GenAI is anticipated to be finalized by mid-2024. \nThis sharing session aims to elucidate Singapore’s pioneering framework\, offering clarity on its innovative approach and providing insights into the direction of progress. \nBesides the proposed Model AI Governance Framework for Generative AI\, Lee Wan Sie will also share on AI Verify – IMDA’s governance testing framework and software toolkit.
