In its ongoing mission to celebrate the richness of global cultures, Diplomatic Network (Asia) partnered with Intercontinental Singapore on Saturday to host an evening of food and music in the hotel’s elegant lobby.

The event’s spotlight was on the culture of Panama.

The name is… Panama

Situated at the crossroads of Central and South America, with coastlines along both the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans, the Panamanian isthmus offers a variety of flavorful dishes. The dishes served that night told the story of a nation shaped by African, indigenous, and Spanish influences—each bite offering a taste of its rich history.

The night’s menu began with chichita, a refreshing welcome cocktail made from sugar cane spirit and tropical juices. Guests then indulged in the exotic chupe de camarones, a seafood stew brimming with flavor, and the traditional sancocho, a comforting chicken broth simmered with authentic yam.

The highlight for many was ropa vieja with guandu rice, a savory dish of shredded beef in tomato sauce served alongside rice mixed with pigeon peas. Dessert was the irresistible arroz con leche, a creamy rice pudding dusted with cocoa powder, topped with vanilla ice cream, and garnished with sweet mango jam. Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy a cup of Panamanian-brewed coffee.

A delight for DNA’s distinguished guests

The evening’s musical entertainment was provided by a three-piece band that played pieces by Panamanian composers, such as Ruben Blades’ salsa classic “Pedro Navaja” and the internationally renowned tune “Historia de un Amor” by Carlos Eleta Almarán. The audience supported the artists with applause, and some even took to the dance floor.

Adding to the excitement of the evening was a lucky draw, with prizes including Panamanian coffee; a stylish Panama hat, courtesy of Hat of Cain; bottles of fine rum; and more.

Among the distinguished guests were non-resident Singaporean ambassador to Panama, HE Kee Lock Chua; the honorable Sebastian Quiros representing Panama’s diplomatic mission in Singapore; Intercontinental General Manager Andreas Kraemer; DNA member Oscar Brito; DNA Director Tay Wan Leng; and members of the Panamanian community living in Singapore.
