Tackling Asia’s Nutrition Crisis: Insights & Strategies from the 2024 Global Food Policy & Child Nutrition Reports

September 24 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am

Malnutrition is a critical global issue that urgently needs attention, with a focus on improving nutrition for vulnerable populations, especially children in low- and middle-income countries. The urgency is underscored by alarming statistics: approximately 70% of the world’s malnourished children live in Asia, making it the region with the highest concentration of childhood malnutrition globally.

The upcoming roundtable will offer a comprehensive summary of the key findings and recommendations from the 2024 IFPRI Global Food Policy Report and the 2024 UNICEF Child Nutrition Report. We aim to raise awareness and inspire action towards:

  • Improving Diets: Strategies to make nutritious foods more desirable, affordable, accessible, and available to all populations, particularly children.
  • Addressing Inequities: The need to tackle barriers to food access, including poverty, conflict, and environmental crises, which exacerbate malnutrition rates.
  • Policy Measures and Governance: The importance of comprehensive policy frameworks and governance structures that prioritise nutrition and food security.
  • Early Childhood Nutrition: Emphasising the critical role of nutrition in early childhood development, which is essential for long-term health, cognitive function, and overall well-being.
