October is a festive month for the Republic of Cuba, marked by numerous national celebrations, including Cuban Culture Day.
In honor of the Day of Cuban National Culture, held on October 20 every year, two esteemed Cuban chefs, Eddy Fernandez Monte and Rodolfo Lago Reyes, traveled to Singapore.
Her Excellency Lisbet Quesada Luna, the Cuban ambassador to Singapore, took this opportunity to host some of the Latin American diplomatic colleagues, as well as members of the Singaporean business and cultural communities.
Icons of Cuban Cuisine
The event was held on Monday at the Eureka Griffin Club, near the Botanic Gardens of Singapore. During the evening, the chefs launched their book, 30 Exquisite Recipes: Icons of Cuban Cuisine.
The presentation included a delightful display and tasting of selected dishes from the book. From the savory ropa vieja, or shredded beef, to the indulgent arroz con leche, or rice pudding, chefs Eddy Fernandez Monte, who is also chair of the Cuban Culinary Federation, and Rodolfo Lagos Reyes shared the captivating stories behind each recipe.
The historical narratives infused the evening with nostalgia, evoking pride in their nation’s culture and heritage.
Guests also enjoyed classic Cuban cigars and rum, all set against a vibrant backdrop of tropical rhythms, including bolero, cha-cha, and rhumba. Attendees savored refreshing mojitos while engaging in lively conversations.
This event once again demonstrates that food, transcending ideologies, has the power to unite people. Sharing a nation’s traditions serves as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity.
Diplomatic Network (Asia) extends its heartfelt congratulations to HE Luna for this memorable initiative and looks forward to supporting more events that showcase such cultural richness.
