Experience the enchanting beauty of Japan’s cherry blossom season at Gardens by the Bay’s Sakura exhibit which started last week.

Gardens by the Bay launched its 9th consecutive version of the Sakura exhibit last week, even amidst the recent lockdown period, as highlighted by the landmark’s chief executive, Felix Yeo

This floral event replicates the Japanese cherry blossom season, offering a perfect way to welcome Spring. 

Thousands of Singaporeans travel to Japan every year just to experience this natural gift. For those unable to make the journey all the way to the island nation, Gardens by the Bay has obliged by bringing it closer to home. 

As part of Gardens by the Bay’s diplomatic horticultural policy, it teamed up with the Japanese embassy in Singapore to share the initiative with locals. 

His Excellency Ishikawa Hiroshi, ambassador of Nippon, endorsed the opening and, in collaboration with the Japanese Cultural Centre, presented a showcase of drum performances, food delights, martial arts, tea ceremonies, and more to entertain the distinguished guests during the opening ceremony. 

Attendees were treated to Yozakura, the first-ever night viewing experience where cherry blossom trees were lit up, leaving the spectators in awe. 

The occasion was graced by the presence of Singaporean Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister Indranee Rajah who also serves as the second minister for National Development and Finance. Also present were members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Singapore, headed by its dean, Mexican Ambassador Agustin Garcia-Lopez Loaeza. 

Sakura, the floral display inspired by the traditional beauty of Kyoto, will be open to the public for a month, until the April 21, 2024.
